Black and grey realism. Wild life is Ken’s favourite subject to his full leg sleeve tattoo, what a nice guy Ken was, he previously started his full sleeve project by another artist, who had to leave the country. I was happy to take the sleeve, as he wanted black and grey realism, and he seemed really easy going as well. We are here to help customers, so if I see a light in the end of the tunnel, I take on the job, being able to help customers is a big part of being a tattoo artist. Cover-ups and finishing big projects, is harder than starting a fresh skin tattoo, however, when everything works out in the end, and you build a positive vibe, and trust with your client, it makes the risk you faced worthwhile. Black and Grey Tattoo. Half sleeve Tattoo complete. Black and grey roses and clock. This tattoo I did free hand, I only stencilled the clock. I had loads of fun with it. Jordan had previously visited me for a half sleeve, and when he messaged me again for his other half sleeve in black and grey, I was really exited about his idea, he listened to me, when I recommended to go wiser with his tattoo, as he previously wanted a smaller Tattoo. I have had worked on small tattoos in the past, and the client always comes back to get more around it. So that’s why I recommend to go for what you really want, instead of coming back for small sessions, therefore the tattoo will not flow as natural as it should. So if you plan wise a tattoo from the beginning, you should be able to get the best results.

Tupac, Notorious BIG and Dr Dre. Sometimes going back to the foundation of art, stepping away from digital art, it feels almost challenging in a sense, to not being able to press the erase button, or adding a layer and being able to detach that layer with ease. Approaching a traditional painting in my perspective, it’s really for real, as everything you are doing you have to really feel it, to be aware that every decision you make, it will be an statement in the painting, it’s really important to get your values right in the beginning, as trying to fix those statements later on in the final painting stages, it feels like you are going against what’s supposed to be. The Overall resume of approaching a traditional painting nowadays, is to erase any thoughts of how long it will take, and do it purposely for having fun. I speak to a lot of painters nowadays, who choose digital painting over traditional, for the fact that it can be done so much quicker, and I would completely understand that, as nowadays we are more limited with time. However, sometimes for me, what matters is how it feels, and painting oil on board is such a pleasant feeling that will not be replicated in a digital painting. Thank you
Wolf Black and Grey Tattoo
Work in progress, half sleeve tattoo, black and grey realism. It was my clients first tattoo, what a cool dude, he’s a game designer, so really interesting to tattoo someone who’s an artist and someone who has the point of view of an artist. Game developers are for sure my favourite artists nowadays, they have to work so hard in order to deliver a great quality game, and nowadays, the competition is just getting tougher, so they keep up to deliver always better games and better experiences. If you are in to that sort of inspirational story, specially in the art world, I would recommend a documentary on “Prime” called “Indie Game” it’s about 2 independent game developers, who are under so much pressure to finish their Indie Game. After watching that documentary, it made me respect game developers a lot more. I’m really looking forward to finish this half sleeve, it will be all black and grey and I’m also looking forward to spend time with a game developer. Thank you
Black and Grey Surrealism Art
Surrealism is a new sort of style in tattooing, and in my point of view, it means, a realistic / fantasy looking piece of art, of course not many tattoo fans are aware of this style, and I accidentally have been drawing along those lines in the past, unaware of the style myself. The feeling I get about surrealism is a realistic image, incorporated by what you don’t usually see in real life, if you know what I mean, I understand not everyone would understand that concept, however, surrealism is along those lines. I love realism black and grey or colour, however, sometimes trying to achieve a hyper realistic image, you can only follow your reference and nothing else, that’s why if you notice, most realism tattoo artists, they are constantly looking at the iPad, so they can replicate exactly what’s in the reference to the skin, where in surrealism, you can deviate a bit, from that repetitive robotic process, and have the allowance, to create a image, never seen before to your clients.

Black and grey free hand tattoo
Free handing a tattoo is a big responsibility, however is a very natural way you can make the tattoo flow with the body. When the client is chilled and have the faith, it inspires me to free hand and give something organically to the clients body. It’s nice when the client makes the most about the fact that a tattoo artist can draw and receives something custom tattooed just for them. I love doing black and grey tattoos, and I draw it, in order to learn about shadow and give my best to my client.

Angel black and grey half sleeve. It was a pleasure working with Carl such a patient and chilled guy. Contrast is important when tattooing black and grey due to longevity, all tattoos fade over time, and black is the only tone that’s gonna hold your tattoo over time. I understand some clients do not like to have much black in their tattoo and I understand, however the tattoo artist should make sure the client knows they are getting a temporary tattoo. A lot of young tattoo artists will start learning to tattoo after 5 years, when they see their tattoo aged, specially in black and grey. Black and grey realism is a style that I draw in order to understand how shadow fall in the subject, I had a seminar with Carlos Torres about shadow, and when I had the seminar I discovered how much I didn’t know about shadow. A lot of black and grey tattoos are based on black, grey and skin, and that’s a very basic understanding of black and grey, that’s how I used to see it and understand, however after understanding and studying black and grey and attending a seminar with one of the best black and grey tattoo artists in the world, I realised that, black and grey tattoos, there’s a lot more deeper understanding than, black, grey and skin. And that’s the thought I have when looking at most black and grey tattoos.

The Larger the tattoo, the bigger the responsibility. When I approach a large tattoo, this is when I’m glad I like drawing, because the larger the tattoo, the more you will need to deal with the human body. The human body curves a lot, so the drawing will have to follow the human body shape in proportion. Dealing with the human body is a big part of tattooing, specially when bringing a design from one part of the body to another. An example of that, is bringing the head of a dragon from the chest to the arm, to make a dragon flow from the chest to the arm, in proportion, and make it believable, it takes a lot of time of practising in the drawing board. A lot of tattoo artists who don’t draw, they can do a really nice single tattoo, A4 or A3 size, however, when they approach a large tattoo, where they have to deal with the human body, and flow the design from one part of the body to another, that’s when you will see the drawing will not flow as it should in the body, due to lack of understanding of proportion in the drawing. Of course not everyone will have the eye to see that, that’s why if a tattoo artist don’t draw, they still are going to have work, because not everyone understands proportion. And I think that’s all good, as you have to get tattooed with who you resonate with, and everyone has a different perception about everything they see. I love art in general, I love to draw and paint outside of tattooing, I’m interested in many different forms of art, and in those 15 years of tattooing and exploring different forms of art, the biggest lesson I had is that, the drawing is the foundation of all types of art, painting, sculpture, video-games, without a foundation of the drawing, all kinds of art is not possible, so that’s why I have to ask you, how can someone be an artist if they don’t draw?
